The acronym Renew stands for a Resourcing, Enabling Network for Evangelical Women. If you receive our monthly letters, quarterly newsletters, or have visited our website, you know how Renew fills this role. We have a two-pronged ministry of renewal and accountability-renewal at the local level, and accountability on the part of the Women's Division.
In the area of renewal, we offer supplemental program resources, provide information on nurturing women's ministries, connect you with other renewal groups within the United Methodist Church, and provide a range of other helps.
In the area of accountability, we call for reform of the Women's Division, offer reviews of UMW resources, attend and report on Women's Division meetings, and offer an analysis of Women's Division finances.
As you prepare for the fall program season, consider our resources. We recommend three excellent resources for 2006-07 that you can acquire directly from Bristol House, Renew's new program resource distributor. These are:
More: Four Dimensions of Intimacy with God, by Marilyn N. Anderes-Marilyn is on the Renew speakers list for years and has provided the spiritual focus for numerous Renew retreats. She speaks to women's groups nationwide. With humility, vulnerability, and a wealth of hard-earned insight, Marilyn gives you a divine call to discover the extraordinary width, length, height, and depth of spiritual intimacy with God. This book is perfect for individual reading or women's group studies. Price: $10 (to Renew customers only) plus postage.
What Jesus Said About., by Stephen M. Miller-This book spotlights some of the most important, down-to-earth teachings of Jesus-and what he expects us to do about them. What Jesus Said About. is made up of essays from prominent Christian teachers and is designed for group or individual study. The topics covered in this book include: worry, temptation, judging others, Sabbath, the poor, healing, death, divorce, holy living, forgiving, and more. Price: $8, plus postage.
Created for Responsibility, by Anthony J. Headley, professor of counseling at Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky-An online review by Harold Burgess states, "This book's message is enlivened with a timely and gripping theme: human beings are created to live responsibly. Dr. Headley.demonstrates an acute, fully Christian understanding of the dynamics of human relationships. He offers insightful analysis into how brutal pain enters our lives through irresponsibility and how sin, misunderstanding, fear, and dishonesty block movement toward responsibility and wholeness..Headley offers hopeful general principles and specific advice to individuals ready to begin living a healthy Christian life rooted in God's plan for humans to live responsibly." Price: $16, plus postage.
Order any of these three resource books directly from Bristol House by calling 800-451-7323. Mention Renew when placing your order. (It would benefit each person to have a copy of the study book. All books have an interactive question/answer section.)
In the area of enabling, we offer:
Inspiring Models for Effective Women's Ministry handbook and notebook, developed by a special task-force of women's ministry leaders across the country-Inspiring Models is filled with scriptural guidelines, practical advice, helpful tips, and real-life examples. This resource has what you need to develop a Christ-centered, life-changing women's ministry in your church-or to revitalize an existing ministry. Price: $15, plus postage.
Renew Network Financial File IV: An Analysis of the Financial Records of the Women's Division-This is Renew's fourth update to the financial file. This packet was developed because of the widespread concern of United Methodist women about the programs, policies, and spending patterns of the Women's Division. Because the funds collected by the Women's Division represent the energies of thousands of women, translated into power, it is important to look at how that power is used and how it reflects the actual concerns of the women who provide the funds. Our purpose is to clearly and carefully present the finds of our study to assist women to come to their own conclusions regarding the confidence they will place in the stewardship and leadership of the Women's Division. Price: $15, plus postage.
Take advantage of any or all of these program materials to assure that you are resourced and enabled to serve faithfully and responsibly within United Methodism.
